Search intent is a design problem, not a keyword problem

Most content teams are handed a keyword list and asked to write pages. That is the wrong order. A query is only the surface of a job someone is trying to do, and the shape of the answer is decided by what they need next.

Read the result page before you writeThe search results are the specification. If the first page is dominated by comparison tables, a thousand-word essay has already lost. If it is dominated by documentation, a marketing landing page will not appear.

Three intents, three page shapes1. Investigating — the reader wants the trade-offs. Give them structure, comparison and honest cost.

2. Deciding — the reader wants a recommendation. Give them criteria, proof and a clear next step.

3. Doing — the reader wants the steps. Give them a checklist and remove every distraction.

Design the page around the job, then write the copy that fills it. Intent-first content reads better and earns links because it is genuinely the most useful answer available.
